Crew Ashore

When a boat came into port after the shrimp companies

had closed on Friday, crews couldn't get paid until Monday.

There was a time when captains would let their crewmen take

buckets of shrimp ashore to trade for their food and drink.

You kept an eye out for men in big rubber boots headed

for the Mascot, the Midget or Captain Tony's.

Never again would shrimp taste so fresh.
